Unfortunately not all inserts and orthotics are created the same. Over the counter inserts that can be purchased at most pharmacies and athletic stores may be helpful, but soon lose effectiveness or cause other conditions. While these may be created for your shoe size, they are not created or tailored to fit your foot or treat your condition. Avoid being “sold” on inserts from an athletic store or guessing on inserts from a pharmacy. Allow our team to educate and fit your orthotic needs with one of our three options. Christie Foot & Ankle offers custom, semi-custom, and pre-fabricated orthotics for you to choose from.
How do you know if you need orthotics?
- Flat feet or feet with high arches
- Painful, aching feet or ankles after standing for long periods
- Not only pain in your feet, but also in your knees, hips, or back
- Athletes or are very active and strive to be physically fit
- Foot problems like plantar fasciitis, bunions, etc.
Custom orthotics are shoe inserts that are used to improve a wide variety of foot and ankle conditions and increase your overall foot and ankle comfort. Orthotics help people stand, walk, and run more easily and comfortably. Custom orthotics are prescribed by your doctor and created after being custom molded to your feet. Once a patient decides on custom orthotics, the feet will be hand molded with plaster casting to create replica shells of the feet. These hand crafted plaster molds allow the doctor to create the most custom fit orthotics for the patient as possible.
Orthotics support the foot and ankle and maintain proper alignment. Much like glasses or contacts help you see better, orthotics help you walk, stand, and run better. Custom orthotics rarely change, but our feet and ankles do change over time. Similar to eye wear from your optometrist, your prescription may change to fit your changing eyes as you age. If you have previous or current custom orthotics, your prescription may need to be changed to fit your changing foot and ankle needs as you age or change activities. Custom orthotics can be adjusted to fit almost any shoe or activity. Christie Foot & Ankle strives to give you the most out of your custom orthotic experience, which is what separates our office from the rest.
Orthotic insoles are prescribed for people of all ages and athletic activities. At Christie Foot & Ankle we also prescribe pediatric patient custom inserts, for any number of conditions. If you have concerns about your child’s feet and ankles, please call or stop by to see if custom orthotics can improve your child’s quality of life.
Semi-Custom Orthotics are a new concept to foot and ankle specialists. Christie Foot & Ankle believes patients should have all manner of options. The semi-custom orthotic is a pre-fabricated, flat orthotic, which is custom molded to the patient’s foot one at a time. Using the latest curing or hardening technology, the orthotic retains the shape molded to the bottom of the patient’s foot. The process takes about 10 minutes total, and the patient leaves Christie Foot & Ankle in new, custom fit inserts. The option exists to further modify the orthotic if desired by the patient.
Christie Foot & Ankle offers an off the shelf orthotic brand used by foot and ankle specialists for decades to treat common foot and ankle ailments. Our off the shelf product ushers in the next generation of comfort, not offered by our competitors. An appointment is not necessary to obtain these orthotics, as they can be bought in office as a product. Simply tell our team what size shoe is needed to fit the orthotic, and purchase the orthotic in office.
